Introduction on Angkor Wat



Angkor Wat is built in the 11 century to 13 century and it is the world largest religious building and not only that it a seven wonder of the world. Lastly, the Cambodians are unable to build any building taller than Angkor Wat. The Angkor Wat is also the biggest city in the whole world at the 13 century consisting of an estimated 1,000,000 people in the city. The name Angkor Wat means the city of temple.
  
History of Angkor Wat:
·  The area was build by Jayavarman II
        ·  The Khmer king Jayavarman II, whose assumption of power around 800 A.D. marks the beginning of the Angkorian period, established his capital at a place called Hariharalaya (today known as Roluos), at the northern end of the great lake, Tonle Sap.
       · The ruins of Angkor are located amid forests and farmland to the north of the Great Lake (Tonle Sap) and south of the Kulen Hills, near modern-day Siem Reap and are a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Comments:
·     The Angkor Wat is a very huge area with many tourists in it, besides that, it has by far the most beautiful sunset and sunrise in the world.
·      The area, even though is old it holds many stories that are told through the crafting of the walls.
·     We felt that this temple is useful in enriching people with the history of this country and how it is important to preserve this kind of ancient temple for the future generation to admire.




About Banyan Temple:
This 3-tiered temple was built around 1190 AD and with 54 towers representing the 54 provinces. They also have some giant face carving with smiles on it.

About Ta Prohm temple:
·   Was built in the Bayon style in the late 12th and the early 13th centuries and was originally called Rajavihara. 
·   It was founded by Khmer king Jayavarman
·  Ta Prohm was one of the most imposing temples and the one which had best merged with the jungle
·  There are many trees growing out of the ruins which are the most distinctive feature of Ta Prohm.
·  Ta Prohm was one of the film sites where the famous Angelina Jolie filmed Tomb Raider
