What does ACCB stands for?
Angkor Centre for Conservation of BiodiversityIntroduction:
The ACCB is located near the famous temples of Angkor. is the first nature conservation centre in Cambodia.The ACCB permanently employs around 20 staff, most of which are Cambodian, in the fields of management, administration and conservation planning, environmental education and sustainable natural resource use and more. Also, there are temporary staff being hired as required for special project. Sam Veasna was the one who came up with the idea of building a rescue centre for wildlife.Unfortunately, he died of malaria in December 1999.
Mission of ACCB is to promote:
- the rescue of selected native Cambodian wildlife
- to provide facilities and techniclal expertise for the conservation breeding of selected threatened species
- to serve as an education and training centre for communities
- to initiate and participate in wildlife conservation and research activities in Cambodia.

These are the few species that we saw at ACCB. The reason that these animals are being kept there is these animals are going to be extinct in the world. This is due to the consumption of their meat or being use for medical purposes. Most of the species there are being placed in cage so that they will not escape from the conservation and they are train to be independent. Most of the species there are used for breeding to increase their population of the different species. They will teach all the species how to adapt to the natural environment before the ACCB release those species back to the natural.
